Tucked away from the grid entirely, this 12-square home proves you don’t need mains power or a big footprint to live well. Tasmanian Oak floors, Silver Top Ash cladding and custom plywood joinery bring warmth throughout, while a separate guest pod and breezeway make the compact footprint feel far bigger than it is. Every sustainable system had to work in harmony, and every finish had to hold up to a high standard, all on a modest budget. The home was designed as a true off-grid escape, proving you don’t need to compromise on comfort or style to live sustainably. The clients were hoping for a peaceful retreat where they can completely switch off and enjoy nature without sacrificing comfort.
Planning + Design
At just 12 squares, every space was thoughtfully designed to maximise functionality while creating a warm, inviting home. Although compact in size, the separate guest pod and breezeway make the home feel far more spacious and functional. Every element was designed to connect the home with its surrounding natural environment.

Delivering a completely off-grid home required careful planning and precision throughout every stage of the build. Every detail needed to work together, from the construction methods to the sustainable systems, to ensure the home would perform exactly as intended. Maintaining exceptional craftsmanship while working within a modest budget was another challenge, requiring smart planning, efficient building practices and close attention to detail from start to finish
